Sheila has had a varied and interesting career beginning with Ecology, then moving into public health as Environmental Health officer, then spending 24 yrs as Health Promotion Officer at Wycombe District Council. This involved supporting staff and the community by helping them to understand and remove barriers to their wellbeing. Her work involved healthy eating, physical activity, loneliness, mental wellbeing and in 2014 she trained to be a Mental Health Fist Aid trainer (MHFA).
She now supports Empower to Cook as Non Exec Director, as well as being a Director of GROW Together. At GROW, she leads a Community allotment project supporting people to grow vegetables / flowers as well as themselves, having there her own allotment too! She is leading on a Grow to Give initiative facilitating allotment tenants to donate spare crops to One Can Trust and developing an Urban Harvest project to raise awareness of the abundance of accessible fruits, nuts and seeds there are in communal spaces for the picking. Finally, she is supporting the development of a project to reduce loneliness through the medium of an interactive, livestream physical activity programme for those unable to leave home due to physical or mental disability, so to bring classes and friends into their home instead.
In her spare time I walk, volunteer at Garsington Opera house as well as visit the National English Opera, museums and galleries.
Until Covid in 2020 she was a regular traveller to far flung places to experience different cultures such as Mongolia, Nepal, Bhutan, Chili, Colombia Vietnam, Cambodia… the list goes on.
