Back in 2014, Michael identified a local need to champion better food education in the community. That’s when he founded Empower to Cook, where he is the Founding Director. Michael is a trained and experienced chef, and also a qualified teacher with a breadth of expertise working with and educating people about food.
He is an advocate for teaching about food from an early age and is passionate about working with children, young people and families to raise self-esteem, confidence and basic life skills using food as a tool, teaching people by doing rather than watching.
Michael is a champion of environmental themes, using seasonal ingredients that are inexpensive and may be easily bought or grown, as well as of surplus food, tapping into the growing network of food waste suppliers.
